That’s enough money to sponsor a team of City Year corps members in schools for one year— which T-Mobile has done for the last four years, including this year at Aki Kurose Middle School. Now T-Mobile will be able to sponsor a second team at Dearborn Park Elementary School, so that even more children in Seattle can benefit from having City Year corps members as their tutors, mentors and role models.
The T-Mobile employees worked incredibly hard to ensure that their T-Mobile Employee Sample Sale, with all proceeds going to City Year Seattle/King County, would be a huge success. Cindy, one of the employees who helped to manage the sale, had been collecting surplus phones for the event throughout the year. On that Friday there were over 7,000 phones– good thing too, because people started lining up for the sale at 8:30 pm the previous evening.
There was so much energy that day – from long lines of employees waiting to purchase holiday gifts and the excitement of the T-Mobile volunteers and City Year corps members as the fundraising goal for the sale was met and exceeded. The money is going to make a big difference in the schools and communities in which T-Mobile employees live and work and that City Year Seattle/King County serves. We at City Year were all so excited.
And it was clear that the employees love working for their company and that they are passionate about giving back. T-Mobile employees at the sale all made comments that reinforce how strong T-Mobile’s core values are and how much the company does to support our community. Many of the employees paid over the suggested price to contribute even more to City Year.
At the end of the day, Travis Warren, the Director of Device Marketing, tallied up the numbers. Last year, we hit $70,000. This year, T-Mobile almost doubled that amount with more than $135,000 raised.
The success of the Holiday Sample Sale demonstrates the commitment of T-Mobile employees to helping our schools and community. The generosity of our employees and their families allows T-Mobile to deepen the partnership with City Year and our community.
